One list member stated that you only get one chance. Not quite true, we
have many adults that return to take several offerings for adults to get a
high school diploma. Even Rep. Jim Davnie got his h.s.degree from adult
education programs!
I think that many students who drop out realize later on how important it
is to have a high school diploma when life is staring them in the face and
they can't get anywhere. I do not have the actual numbers here with me as
to how many adults we have in the district now, but there are many
programs. We also have programs for adult immigrants and that is always
filled to capacity.
Our high school reform initiative is looking into many issues that lead to
dropouts, one of which is relevance of education for students. Tommorrow,
at our board meeting, 2pm 807 NE Broadway, 3rd floor, we will be having a
very important discussion meeting about High School Reform. Feel free to
attend!
