This predicament--taking down perfectly good, mature trees
reminds me of being charged by Sr. Dr. Margery Smith, during
my senior year at St. Kate's (yes, I am a katydid). She and
the other Carondelets were already wrankled because a new
janitor had taken down a line of bushes which were there to
point the way to the river. We were charged with perpetual
care, as an alumnus, of the ginko trees outside Durham (?)
Hall because they had been brought from Ohio by Sr.X (name
forgotten). It seems the bushes had been planted by Indians,
presumably Dakota or Ojibway.
A private school without solid traditions at Minihaha
Academy? Oh, no! Do I sense a disconnect?
