This is also another example of where discussion on the Minneapolis Issues
list leads to coverage in the broader media. However, I was disappointed
that the article didn't more directly attribute Minneapolis Issues.
I'm curious what percentage of public school teachers here in MN send their
kids to public schools.
There are some policies at the schools that just increase truancy. One of
these is an inflexible policy regarding kids carrying school ids. Even if
the staff knows the kid, if a kid comes to school without an id, the kid
gets sent home. How much chance do you think the kid gets back to school
that day with id in tow?
It seems to me that it would be useful if possible for the school district
to interview some of the kids who dropped out -- and find out why they
dropped out.
