Nagging a bit...has any city finance official done a preliminary analysis of
how costly the proposed state property-tax restructuring will be to
Minneapolis? Can any legislator or other elected official get an answer and
post it here?

I think this is a really important figure, especially given the MCDA's
request for more taxes. We may need a tax increase just to replace the lost
revenue from property tax reform, notwithstanding new MCDA efforts.

By the way, did anyone else's alarm bells go off when they read Steve
Cramer's quote this morning: "The question is: Over the next 10 years do we
want to have a community development program that does more than pay back
the debt on old projects and maybe funds the NRP program?"

Given that the same article says the city expects to get $1 billion in
revenue over 10 years and spend $786 million (leaving $214 million), why is
Cramer qualifying NRP funding with a **maybe**?

PS Thanks to everyone for plugging the Nellie book. Needless to say, I'm
thrilled the school will be named after her. It's the perfect honor and I
plan to be there to see it named. My deepest thanks to the School Board and
any advocates for making it happen.
