It is correct that the Mayor's staff are assigned different policy areas to focus on. Buck Humphrey, for example, is assigned to Public Works issues. Pierre Willette, while in the Mayor's Office, was assigned to Public Safety issues. That does not mean those people were the lead person for the City on those issues, however. That is the role of department heads and department staff. Mr. Willette did not replace the Police Chief or the Fire Chief. He simply tracked Public Safety issues and advised the Mayor on them.
