Mayor Sayles Belton applauds City Council litter container plan
Proposal will put more litter containers on the street and increase
servicing of containers

June 8, 2001 (Minneapolis, MN)-Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton today
applauded the Minneapolis City Council for approving a plan to put more
litter containers on the street and increase servicing of those containers.
The plan will put a litter container on every downtown intersection,
increase containers in neighborhood commercial corridors, and doubles the
servicing of litter containers.

"Litter control is a basic city service to keep Minneapolis clean and
beautiful," said Mayor Sayles Belton. "This is a step in the right
direction. I want to acknowledge the leadership of City Council President
Jackie Cherryhomes and Council Members Barb Johnson, Joan Campbell and Sandy
Colvin Roy and their support of this proposal.

"I continue to encourage the downtown and warehouse business community to
further their support of basic City services like litter removal, snow
removal and beautification efforts by increasing the number of Special
Service Districts."

The Mayor will sign the resolution within the week, and citizens will begin
to see increased litter containers and pickup services this summer.
