Robert Yorga wrote in his post on the strib piece that
"its probably the same 800 people from the middlers
party that don't feel one way or the other about
anything, except what the major media outlets tell
them are the important issues."

You must understand that it is difficult to form a
response to this statement without having guidance
from the major media. I will do the best I can with my
own limited capabilities and hindered of course by my
lack of feelings.

The title "mushy middle" was adopted from a member of
a major political party who was bemoaning his parties
attempt to attract those people in the middle as a
waste of time. His goal was apparently to have the
party for only the pure in thought. There seems to be
a lot of "purity" discussion in Minneapolis lately
when it comes to political parties and endorsements.
Middler's thoughts are not always pure, but we have
learned to live with that.

Middlers need the major media as a guide? Once again,
if in your mind your ideas are pure, does that make
anyone who disagrees with you a non-feeling ignoramus
who can be swayed by a newspaper or TV news?

The fact that a middler takes positions that do not
march in lockstep with either left or right, in no way
implies "lack of feelings." People that only base
their political positions on feelings sometimes have
difficulty understanding the importance of
intellectual discussion and thought as well as
feelings that often goes into some peoples political
decisions. One important aspect of discussion is to
try and understand the path others have taken to reach
a political position, including their feelings and
thoughts. To dismiss others as having no feelings does
not do much towards promoting political debate.

Dave sites a Strib poll that says 66% of people in
Minneapolis identify themselves as DFL or DFL leaning.
If you are leaning towards the DFL, where are you
standing? Most likely in the middle. Welcome to the
party.
