Greetings. Good EX-board members stay on the sidelines, respectfully quiet,
and DON'T second-guess sitting officials, but having said that, I must step
forward for a brief moment and state unequivocally: I know Superintendent
Carol Johnson very well - probably better than any other member of this list
- and I know she is NOT driven by money.

I have known Carol Johnson for about 15 years - at least since she was
assistant principal at - I think it was - Hall? I worked with her closely as
a parent volunteer for years before I worked with her as a board member. I
was on the board that hired Carol back from St, Louis Park to serve as
superintendent in 1997. I was part of the team that negotiated her original
superintendent contract. I know Carol well.

Carol Johnson is an educator driven by concern for children, first, last and
in-between. She is principled, unselfish, honest. It wouldn't occur to Carol
to capitalize on the confusion surrounding the Nashville job offer to advance
herself economically. Carol is truly one of those rare souls in public
service because she is moved by a desire to advance the Common Good.

Realizing that they employ one of the best and most-sought-after
superintendents in the country, the school board acted as best they could to
retain her - for the good of this entire community.

It remains to be seen if Carol even accepts the additional compensation, but
if she does, I'll be one of those saying that the city's future - ie, the
children - are well worth an additional $30K.
