Great dream, Tim. It is an election year and by now even
the least of politicians has caught on to the idea that 'No
matter what you ask, I'll say what I want to say about what
I want to discuss.'
In all the hoo-hah of a rousing, struggled for budget
agreement among supposedly three parties at the state house,
the effect on Minneapolis is pretty grim. I want to discuss
that and I want to discuss how we got to such a pass as a
group.
Nit-picking the pols might only exacerbate the situation to
no particular profit.
However, I was appalled by the hatefulness of the reps and
sens against Minneapolis. These folks knew they had the
power and the numbers to "opt out" of supporting anything
the city of Minneapolis wanted and they did just that out of
what appeared to be pure spite of the kind 11-year old boys
do to be nasty. So saying, what has Minneapolis done just
lately that cranked that spite tighter? What has Minneapolis
done traditionally that fuels this attitude? It always
takes two to tango.
No NRP money is a serious blow. Projects long-planned and
seriously funded will not see the light of day in probably
81 neighborhoods. In the nine original neighborhoods
delineated as reconstruction neighborhoods (Phillips,
Central, Glenwood Olson, Hawthorne, Near North, Beltrami,
and Eliot Park--not sure of the last one)this will have a
high enough impact to adversely effect all the neighborhoods
around them.
I am mystified that some people in Moorehead or Tyler or
Black Duck or Edina or somewhere, who has never met any of
us, have such a spite against me and my neighbors. It's
beyond me.
This is where cultural diversity grinds exceeding small. It
was the metropolis vs. the other. We have more than half the
population and a pinhead of the land, so we are not
blameless in this fracas.
