Hey, there's racism here, but I think Mr. Peterson may be looking under
the wrong rock. Any board that has a rep of keeping a superintendent
against that person's will, is going to have a challenge in recruiting a
replacement...and a pretty disgruntled leader.

I agree with some of the points made by Peterson, Tannick in the Strib
and Ron Rosenbaum on KSTP. Johnson and the board's disregard for
contractual agreements is a bad, if common, message.

Some thoughts.

1. Did I miss the parallel comments when exactly the same process
brought Johnson from St. Louis Park to Minneapolis four years ago? Is a
double standard operating in that regard?

2. This may be some lawyer bashing, but...I have difficulty imagining
Johnson showing up in the offices of Tannick or Rosenbaum and describing
the efforts of the board to stop her from moving on, then getting the
response, "Sorry, honey, they're doin' the right thing. I can't
ethically help you. Suck it up and do the job you agreed to." I somehow
think these folks might find a way to help her get out of the contract,
perhaps in return for legal fees of, say, $30,000 paid by Minneapolis
tax payers.. Perhaps I am cynical, but ethical standards are nowadays
tempered by the capacity of lawyers to spin the law.

3.
As far as messages that make education in Minneapolis more challenging
go, the Johnson contract message finishes a distant second to the one
delivered by general managers of NBA franchises at about the same time.
That NBA dream is well implanted before the times tables are learned.
Maybe lawyers (and others) have some ethical suggestions on that one.
