according to a recent star tribune article, law
enforcement agencies use a 10 point criteria list to
determine whether someone is a "gang member"
among other things, the criteria include corresponding
with a gang member, frequent association with a known
gang member or appearing in a photo with other gang
members.
under this criteria, everyone of us, whether knowingly
or unknowingly, could be classified as a 'gang member'
by the police, including mothers and grandmothers of
many young men.
my contention is that the word 'gang' is so generic as
to be meaningless. and is just an excuse for police
to harass people they do not like. i say it is white
fear of black people, with a politically correct spin.
