Lavender Magazine Blasts Stenglein

http://www.lavendermagazine.com/160/160_letters_8_1.html

from the editorial:

Of greatest concern to the GLBT community, however, is Stenglein's vote on
domestic partner benefits. When a resolution came before the Hennepin
County Board urging Gov. Jesse Ventura to authorize and extend domestic
partner benefits to all Minnesota public employees, Stenglein's deciding
vote sank it.

Lavender recommends that no member of our community support Stenglein's bid
for mayor of Minneapolis.

EY: I wouldn't go that far, however I hope the Mark Stenglein responds
directly to this editorial. Should he get through the primary, and Lisa
McDonald doesn't -- he will want to get some of Lisa McDonald's MANY
fiscally conservative Gay and Lesbian supporters. I am unsure if Stenglein
is anti-gay, or just ignorant from the statements he has made so far, and
the actions he has taken. If he is anti-gay, and panders to the minority
of anti-gay sentiment in Minneapolis (not much here in Minneapolis), he
deserves to go down in flames. If he is like some other politicians --
just ignorant on these issues -- then there's a different story. A number
of gay friends of mine voted for him for county commissioner because the
alternative was the corrupt Sandra Hillary.

Lavender also published my letter to the editor supporting Robert
Lilligren. The letter also plugs the Minneapolis Issues list and CNIA-chat.

Insight's Puff Piece on Brian Herron

This week's issue of Insight has a puff piece and advertisement on Council
Member Herron. The article features a large photo of Herron -- though the
photo seems dated. It is good coverage for Herron. Herron has an ad in
the paper on the 3rd page.

Reportedly, the Spokesman has an article covering CNIA President Zack
Metoyer's thoughts on a new competing Central organization. Zack repeats
the allegation that those unhappy with the current state of affairs in CNIA
are just racist.

Scuttlebutt on Herron's opening bash:

Mayor/Cherryhomes at Brian Herron's opening campaign bash: According to a
source who went to the Herron bash, both the Mayor and Cherryhomes were
front and center at this event. I also heard that employees at the
restaurant (Pepitos) were treated rudely by those who came to this event.
Some of those employees happen to live in the 8th ward.
