Some clarifications are in order...

This is true of the Republican Party, as well. Or the
Kiwanis. Or the local softball league. Any
organization that has a chairperson, president,
captain or any other leadership structure, by your
definition, must be a "machine". I guess only
anarchists are safe from this diabolical scheme.

The DFL'ers who were roundly criticized were the ones
who either held party office (sort of a conflict of
interest to be a leader in one party and openly
support a candidate running against you) and those who
this year either were or were considering asking for
the party's help in seeking city election. Rejecting
the party one year and then asking for its assistance
the following year does tend to make some of us a bit
cranky, I will admit.

And as I recall, the DFL members of the City Council
has had a weekly caucus meeting since well before Mr.
Minn even moved to Minnesota. Ask Dennis Schulstad. Or
Barbara Carlson. And even though it exists there
hardly were any votes where Minn was the only member
voting in opposition to the other 12. If the DFL in
this city were a true machine, we would have been
capable of isolating him far more than one stupid
little weekly meeting. Besides, Steve didn't need any
help in isolating himself. He did a great job all by
his lonesome.
