I was an election judge today for the first time, from 6:00 am to 8:30 pm
(with 2 meal breaks). 11-1 is in mid-SW Minneapolis. Interesting
experience, and I discovered today that this is the home precinct of both
Dennis Green and R.T. Rybak. (Coach Green arrived over a 1/2 hour before
the polls opened and waited patiently to be our first voter. I believe he
told Ch. 5 that everywhere he's lived he's tried to do this. I thought,
Good for him!)
We had something like a 40% turnout. It started slowly, really picked up in
midafternoon, and continued to be busy until close to closing. We ran out
of "I voted stickers" in the afternoon. We had to call for more ballots
about 6:30. I expect the general election to be a busy day.
More people should take the time to be election judges. Without good ones,
Minneapolis elections won't function very well.
