Although I am a DFLer, I do not vote straight party line, and I value any candidate that reflects the values in which I believe. Often times I find myself in agreement with Green Party candidates, and I want to say congratulations to all the Green Party candidates, as well as the DFLers, who made it through yesterday's election. I am excited by the possibility of a real, strong, and vibrant 3rd party in this state and, I hope, in this country. Also a great big old Congratulations to Patrick Peterson ;-). It's a selfish congrats, but sometimes I can be that way ;-).

I hope everyone is dealing with the trauma of yesterday's events. The Minnesota Men of Color is having an open house today with food for folks who want a safe place to relax and talk about the events. For those of you who don't know, Minnesota Men of Color is a Minneapolis based organization that works primarily with gay, bi, and trans men of color.

Subject: [Mpls] We do need more Republicans

I'd like to echo Eva Young's thanks to Shirley Carlson for running as a Republican for 10th Ward City Council.  Shirley is a gracious and thoughtful person -- the very sort of candidate our city needs to resurrect the Minneapolis Republican party.  I'd also like to thank Mark Knapp for raising the issues he did and bring the concerns of renters into the debates.

I think our city would be much healthier, I think the DFL would be healthier, if there was a credible opposition party or parties.  I hope to see more candidates from the Republican and Green parties.
