David asked about plans for the completion of Nicollet from Lake Street to 29th after the K-Mart is moved and whether traffic calming issues were included in the plan. A proposal came through CLIC for work to be completed in 2003, assuming a deal could be worked out with K-Mart. There is a need for a total of $3,644,000 in additional funding that was not included in the paper's review of the project. This would cover paving, utilities, a bridge and $334,000 for "streetscape" improvements. A good portion of this will be funded through State Aid and the rest by Net Debt Bonds. In their request for funds Public Works said the project will "create a more pedestrian and transit friendly development through streetscape improvements'" What that means, I don't know, but at least they have a line item for it in the budget.
