Repeat reminder: be sure to clip the previous post, or excerpt what you're referring to in the body of your email. Constant reminder: our rules allow pointed disagreement but require respectful discussion. -- My reaction when I first heard about Brian Herron was one of dismay. Dismay because every time we have an incident where someone who has the public trust violates it, it somehow taints every other public figure with the same brush. We have a crisis of a lack of public faith in our leadership because there have been breaches of trust. That doesn't mean that every official should be viewed in the same way. I have read many posts in the last few months with sorrow because they speak suspicious volumes about whoever may be in the decision making shoes at a given time. I must admit that, in the past, I also had my generalized suspicions. Then I ended up on the other side of the podium with those eyes looking accusingly at me. I wish that everyone could walk in those shoes. It is important for all of us to question, express concern, and display our outrage about issues. However, we also complain about, second guess, persecute, hound, harass, and belittle our public servants. During election years the pace and volume increases by multiples. These are hard jobs, with little compensation, long hours, and few rewards. Is it any wonder that we have politicians who choose to quit? Recently the "Constant reminder: our rules allow pointed disagreement but require respectful discussion" has been added to the top of the posts. My wish is for those guidelines to be followed at all times, by all campaigns, during the next two months.
