Rosa Fields responds, "a look at the
evacuation plans for any major municipality around a nuclear
plant indicates that it is unreasonable to expect such a plan to
have any significant meaning in the event of a real catastrophe."
_____
Exactly. In any major disaster like a terrorism incident, the city's
emergency preparedness plan will prove largely useless and ineffective. For
the mayor to raise terrorism scenarios as a some mechanism to measure
leadership capability, thereby implying she has been tested, is equally
useless and ineffective.

Like Rosa, I too am more interested in the Mayoral candidates stand and
policy direction in areas closer to home for most of us. Issues like
financing affordable housing, maintaining the city's infrastructure,
taxpayer subsidies to big business, transportation issues, the livability of
neighborhoods, growth of small businesses and jobs, the property tax burden
on homeowners and renters, and environmental health issues. And, yes, how to
build and maintain a first-rate, family friendly and affordable public
library system that meets the needs of all our city residents. These are
the topics I want to hear the Mayoral candidates discuss.
