Picking up on Susan Youngs comments, I just wanted mention the great relationship the
Master Gardener program has with Habitat for Humanity. As a Master Gardner, I have
been working with my third Habitat family to help them think about their landscape and
choose plant materials. All plants will be donated by various nurseries throughout
the area and come planting day, dozens of volunteers will arrive on the site to dig
new garden beds and put in the plants. Its been a great experience for me and to see
the excitement and pride of the new homeowners makes it incredibly satisfying. If you
have a new Habitat house in your neighborhood, theres a good chance that it may soon
display some of the nicest landscaping on the block.
