Yesterday's Star Tribune had an update on Sabri's
claim that the FBI wasn't nice to him.
Some notable excerpts:
(Prosecutors) called the claim 'bizarre' and said even
if other city officials encouraged people to run for
City Council, 'they were not actions authorized,
directed or approved of by the federal investigators
or prosecutors.'
snip
Birrell also alleged that it was outrageous for
federal authorities to keep Herron's confession secret
for two weeks while he cooperated with investigators
and continued to work on city matters.
Prosecutors responded: 'To the contrary, what is
'outrageous' is that defendant Sabri, after bragging
about his corruption of city government and offering
kickbacks in exchange for taxpayer economic
development funds, would now feign concern that the
government's undercover investigation 'gave the people
of Minneapolis one more poke in the eye' ... The
defendant has no standing to invoke concern for the
people of the City of Minneapolis.'
Eric:
I thought the response was right on target - FBI and
US Attorney aren't going to fall for the same rhetoric
and inuendo that Sabri has used to "divide and
conquer" three neighborhood groups. Obviously they
see his primary motive of greed at work.
More from the article:
(Sabri)wants the FBI to return what he said was an
unused computer that he bought for his daughter
Eric:
I thought Sabri's daughter was about 5 years old -
does this make any sense at all?? Maybe Zach Metoyer
can help us with more information, since he works for
Sabri.
On another note - the same page had the bit about the
new US Attorney fighting terrorism. Bin Laden has set
up cells all over the country, and one person in the
metro who is a known "al-queda" member has already
been taken into custody. An Egyptian guy who had been
involved with bin Laden said Bin Laden gave him a
bunch of money to get set up in business, and then
further their cause. There are eerie similarities
between the Boston area connections of the WTC
terrorists and a notorious local businessman. I hope
I'm wrong.
