A press release regarding the status of the clock was released on Sept. 18.
The clock has not functioned since August 29. The gears of the clock were
damaged when they slipped out of alignment. The company that services the
City Hall clock, A. H. Verdin of Cincinnati, has found a sub-contractor who
has agreed to retool the gears as spare parts are no longer readily
available. The Municipal Building Commission that operates the City Hall and
Courthouse is awaiting word from the A. H. Verdin as to when the parts will
be available. The recent disruption in air traffic following the tragic
events in NYC and Washington, DC, also contributed to the delay in finding
someone to work on the spare parts.

Since the press release, we have had several reports on the air, in print
and on TV. David Hawley of the Pioneer Press also visited City Hall and the
clock tower and wrote a wonderful piece on the clock. If you are able to
find a copy of the Pioneer Press at a local library, check out the pictures
taken by their staff photographer. Please click on the link below and read
about a unique treasure amidst us.

Loki Anderson writes : I haven't seen anyone address this yet (although I
have about four hundred emails that I haven't read
yet...and am about to do a Mass Purge!) but is the
fact that the clock on City Hall hasn't worked in
nearly a month related somehow to the renovations
taking place in the council chambers?
