Well, ya know it's hard to have a debate when your opponent doesn't show. Yeah, Natalie showed, Shane was there, Mr Stenglein, Robert Lilligren, cable access' Brother Love was there, but no Jackie, and no Joe. A no Joe, as it were. I know it was recorded by MTN, so look for it in the next week or so. A gentlemen from the Minneapolis Property Rights group showed up with a display showing all the houses that were condemned and torn down all in Joe's ward. It really begins to look like a plan being put together by Joe and Jackie to remove certain houses and certain people. A lot of houses, maybe some had to go, but all of them. Then a African American man in the audience spoke up about how the city only gave him two weeks to get a proposal together on a rehab, ultimately the house was torn down. Now why would a man spend time and energy on a house that would get the ax?
Natalie leveled charges about the Hollman redevelopment. There is no one from the community working there, while one of Jackie's relatives from the burbs has a job at the site. She spoke about the 1 percent interest rate loan to the developer for 980,000.....It's too bad Jackie couldn't explain. The community can look over the deal, after the deals have been made. The candidates were asked what they would do to revitalize the community. Shane explained that shady economies exist for a number of reasons, but that the city is not doing enough. And in fact the city's actions in the past number of years has eroded the community that is there to the point where people want and have to leave. Thus making it easier for the city to come in and get cheap property, redevelop it and sell it to the highest bidder. The market is having an effect but the city's policies are speeding up the process of driving the lower and middle class and the elderly out of their homes. The black community definitely gets ignored, and I can understand the frustration they have with the system. Again, it was troubling not to see my council person at a debate in and about his ward. The absence of the incumbents was not missed by the crowd at Lucille's. Hopefully they will stand up for their rights on Nov. 6th. Hopefully, Joe won't be too busy tomorrow for the debate at Edison, that would speak volumes to the high school students and the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association that put it together. breaking the sound barrier, Robert Yorga new3 Mark Snyder wrote: > Hi all, > > I'm on the digest list of the Forum, so I apologize if discussion already > started on this topic.
