We had a thread a while ago about the Minnesota Orchestra playing the
National Anthem after the September 11 attacks. Besides my DFL activism, I
also play violin with the U of M Health Sciences Orchestra -- a small,
volunteer, community orchestra with a mission to bring the healing and
uplifting effects of music to the Fairview/University Hospital setting.

This Sunday we are performing a very special concert featuring the world
premiere performance of an original composition by our Director, Minneapolis
violinist Jim Riccardo, plus a personal narrative by Dr. Robert O. Fisch.
The music will accompany a slide show of Dr. Fisch's original and moving
artwork. Dr. Fisch is a Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor and has written
two books about his experience "Light From the Yellow Star" and "The
Metamorphosis to Freedom". His artwork has been displayed at the
Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

The Concert is FREE and open to the public.
Sunday October 28
2:00 PM
Ted Mann Concert Hall
University of Minnesota, West Bank

Donations will be accepted for the Dr. Robert O. Fisch, M.D. Pediatric
Fellowship at the University of Minnesota

This concert has been planned for many months, but with a theme of "Personal
Journey to Freedom", lessons of healing and recovery from a survivor of the
Holocaust, it has taken on a deeper meaning since the September 11 attacks.

The Program:

Symphony No. 41 in C "Jupiter", WA Mozart

Concerto in C minor for Oboe and Violin, Allegro, JS Bach

Selections from "Schindler's List", John Williams

Arioso and Hungarian Dance from "Papillon" by Minneapolis Composer Jim
Riccardo (World Premiere)

The U of M Health Sciences Orchestra is made up entirely of volunteers, many
of whom work in the Health Sciences field. We rehearse weekly and perform
quarterly in the lobby of the U of M Fairview/University Hospital. The
orchestra was organized 7 years ago by Dr. Marvin Goldberg and is supported
by the University Medical Auxiliary.

The Health Sciences Orchestra did a concert about a year and a half ago also
featuring Dr. Fisch's artwork and our Director said it was the most moving
musical performance he has EVER been a part of -- and Jim Riccardo has been
principal second violinist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and a member
of the Minnesota Orchestra.
