If you're concerned about women in this community and neighborhood safety,
domestic violence is an issue you should know about. Domestic violence is
the leading cause of injury to women between ages 15 and 44 in the United
States - more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. **

A woman is beaten every 15 seconds.** Some statistics show that as many as
1 in 4 women has been abused or assaulted. Think of all the women in your
life-- your mother, sisters, friends, neighbors, partners, co-workers.....
You may have a hard time believing that statistic because you probably
haven't heard about it from them. Many women never talk about their
experience. Silence from fear and shame keep this issue from being brought
to light.

You may feel helpless to do anything to keep this from happening. October
is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Now is a perfect opportunity to learn
more and to connect to community resources that can help communities stop
domestic violence.
