I need to clarify that I in no way meant to denigrate campaign workers by the use of
the descriptive word 'HORDE". And I further apologize for the misspelling (hoard)
that was not picked up by spell check for obvious reasons. Also being a devotee of the
American Heritage Dictionary and particularly its appendix of Indo-European Roots that
exists in some early editions, I further checked on the two words in question.
Horde was not taken down to that level, only to the Turkish, ordu for camp. It also
referred to the Mongol hordes, reminding me of Genghis Kahn (whoops..Khan)...no, we
are not related although less polite legislative activists have at times made that
analogy. Hoard however, is derived from the root SKEU meaning to cover and including
such relatives as "scum" and "rump...backside". So I really apologize if anyone
thought That was what I meant.
Finally as an insignificant part of Paul Zerby's hordes, gang, minions, cohorts, who,
out of loyalty to my old co-fighter in many battles, Joan Campbell, only joined up
after the primary, I do not want to denigrate the value of campaign workers. Still the
candidate is the most important contact for voters (as Joan sadly found out).
