News item from the homefront, seen while walking home from the library: It is 9pm here in Downtown Mpls, and the MPD has temporarily closed 1st St South to traffic, between Hennepin and 3rd Ave S, while a large truck parked by the Post Office is checked out. Squad cars with flashing lights are blocking the lanes into the area, one car at each of the 4 intersections.
Mild, quiet night. Its peaceful and kind of colorful with the twirling red lights, sort of like preview of Christmas lights. And reassuring that Mpls's finest are protecting us. Let's all stay calm, and be careful out there. BTW, a week ago Fire Chief Rocco (?) Forte gave a facsinating and informative talk to the Stone Arch Discussion Group about the Fire and Police Departments' preparations for terrorism incidents (chief responsibility is with Fire, FYI). These folks have been planning and training for years--really out ahead of the curve. Forte is really on top of it. Sleep well tonight.
