I want to point out that the Mayor was on schedule to be at the Forum (set by her campaign staff) at 7 p.m. but she had a previous engagement to speak briefly at a fundraiser for People Serving People (homeless shelter) through her mayoral office.  We thought that her start time would allow her to be on time for both events, but her speaking time ended up to be a bit later than planned when we finalized the event schedule with the organization.

I (her campaign manager) made the decision for the Mayor to come late to the forum because I thought that the work of People Serving People is so very important and did not want to cancel at the last minute.  When I found out that she would be late, I spoke to  Mr. Alan Hooker, who was very gracious about the last minute change and said he would help by starting with introductions and ground rules.  I assumed that Mr. Rybak could go ahead with opening remarks and questions.

Since coming on board I have tried very hard to balance both schedules and keep her on time to each event.  Given the 100s of requests received every day by her mayoral office and the campaign, it is not an easy task and I have a new appreciation for public officials who are candidates at the same time.
