So with the Twins on the verge of "contracting" (Go Twins....and take the Vikings with you!) how about bringing back the Minneapolis Millers as a Northern League team and get a good cross-town rivalry with the Saints going? Maybe, as part of cleaning up the horrible Kmart strip mall mess at Nicollet/Lake, consider the construction of a historical recreation of the old Millers ballpark at Nicollet Lake. There used to be a big photo mural of it in the Norwest Bank on the corner there, I don't know if it is still there, but it was a really cool beautiful stadium--turrets and walls right up to the sidewalk so you could step off the trolley and right up to the ticket office window. Home runs not only out of the park but right across Nicollet Ave.!
Instead of being afraid of losing its "major league status" (what kind of insecurity about their home town makes people (or just the Strib?) feel that anyway?) Minneapolis citizens could be proud of rejecting the whole commercialized money dominated MLB industry and enjoy fun and decent hometown baseball. Without the $$$ demands or competition in town from the Twins, maybe there would be enough market interest and private dollars available to do such a project without the kind of public subsidy/bribe Pohlad wanted to keep the team in Minnesota.
