I've really appreciated the information about
journalistic coverage of the candidates in the last
few days. With David and Britt, I'm concerned that
the Strib didn't allow RT to at least tell his side of
the "conflict of interest story" in their profile
piece.

In light of that, was anyone else perturbed by the
placement and timing of the "Block E Takes Shape"
blurb in today's (Nov 2) Star Tribune Business
section? In the print version of today's paper, the
entire center of the front page of the Business
section is taken up by a photo of Block E construction
along with a photo of SSB and Jackie Cherryhomes with
Block E developer Dan McCaffrey and a guy from the
Hard Rock Cafe, captioned:

"Hard Rock Cafe marketing executive Chris Tomasso
hoists a Gibson Guitar that was autographed by
Minneapolis City Council President Jackie Cherryhomes,
left, Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton and Block E developer
Dan McCaffrey, right."

The one paragraph "story" accompanying the 2 photos
reads, in part: "The retail component of Block E,
expected to open next August, is nearly 80 percent
leased, Chicago-based developer Dan McCaffrey said
Thursday. 'We're meeting or exceeding our expections'
of signing tenants, McCaffrey said at a news
conference at the complex to formally announce the
commitments of Hard Rock Cafe, Improv Comedy Club and
Borders Books and Music."

Two thoughts immediately came to my suspicious mind:

1. What a coincidence that McCaffrey somehow chose to
hold a news conference/photo op to make this "formal
announcement" five days before the election.
2. How interesting that the Strib should choose to
put this non-event front and center in the Business
section.
