Moving the issue of the 2nd ward regarding students and renters to the 10th ward, we have the Dan Niziolek crowd holding up the Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) president as an example of renter involvement and the Mark Knapp group holding up renters ignorance of NRP as an example of non-involvement. I don't know the history of LNA. In general, though, given the history of organizations over the decades to have a token member of an excluded group held up as an example of inclusiveness, I can accept that both Dan and Mark are speaking accurately.
My experience in Minneapolis has been one of solid bias against tenants. This is, indeed, an issue for the city council. Once again, as I do not have specific knowledge of LNA, I cannot speak of that organization, specifically. However, I would not find it inconceivable that LNA has a tenant as an officer of the association, but does not reach out to include tenants as a matter of course. Meanwhile, Doug Kress mailed out a piece of literature listing exactly what he would do for tenants, including making sure their voices are heard in City Hall. In contrast, Dan Niziolek's recent mailings listed the names of several people who have a vested interest in preserving the status quo. As of today, I have come out in support of Doug Kress. I find Dan Niziolek to be a clone of Lisa McDonald, including assuming people who do not tell him they agree with him are in opposition to him. My decision to support Doug came in no small part because Dan assumed, while I was still fairly undecided whom to support, that I did not support him, without bothering to find out what my position really was. This is not the type of representative I want in city government. --Rosa Field Ward 10 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
