I don't want to discount Lee Johnson's support in the African American
community or that her campaign provided the catalyst to motivate new voters.
But, in a tight race like the Lee Johnson-Cherryhomes contest in Ward 5,
analyzing support in terms of which candidate carried which precincts may be
misleading.

Council Member-elect Lee Johnson received 30% of her votes in precincts 2 and
4 which are adjacent to Wirth Park. She received 26% of her votes from the
four 5th Ward precincts which include the riverfront and warehouse district.
While she didn't carry the downtown precincts, her strong showing in those
precincts was essential to her victory. Ms. Johnson Lee ran well in every
5th Ward precinct and that is why she won.
