Jenny Hauser writes: Robert Lilligren was one of those who also believes Mpls. is overdue to sign on in support of Rep. John Conyers' H.R. 40 bill calling for a national dialogue and eventual action regarding apologies and monetary reparations to the African-American community.
===================================== I don't recall Robert Lilligren campaigning on this issue. This question was NOT asked of 8th ward candidates at Lucille's Kitchen or at other public forums I was at. I also don't recall having this issue discussed at campaign meetings. Instead issues such as airport noise, Mitigation for those impacted by I 35W development, development of the Sears building, better basic city services and eliminating racial profiling were discussed. In other words -- issues that more related to the function of a City Council member. Jim Niland was often criticized -- and rightly so, I believe, for his tendency to spend his political capitol on resolutions of this sort -- which relate to national and international issues -- but are really out of scope for the City Council. Jenny, do you have a source for this -- was this a private conversation with Dean Zimmerman, or did Robert make these statements at a public forum or meeting? Litigation possibilities.... Regarding David's comments about litigation against list members or E-Democracy. What I would hate to see as an unintended consequence of the tactics Cherryhomes used to get Strand to retract is having more people signing on to the list with pseudonyms when people want to criticize public officials.
