This week a number of phone calls were made by Dr. Willarene Beasley,
former principal of the Connection Center and (subsequently) the Minneapolis
Technical Training Academy. She called parents whose children were still
enrolled at MTTA in spite of the school board's decision to withdraw its contract
from MTTA, ,and informed them that the school was closing and that they should transfer their children to other high schools in the MPS system.
Nothing could be further than the truth. MTTA has remained open and is still planning to finish the school year, receive accreditation, and move forward with its plans to educate and train both high school students and adult students for careers in the IT field. I am appalled that Dr. Beasley, whether out of spite, malice, or a misguided concern for her former students, would take part in spreading lies about the school, and I can't help but wonder whether it is the school board or the teachers' union that is behind these efforts to close the school by any means fair or foul. Both have much to lose if MTTA is successful at doing what five of the seven Minneapolis public schools cannot, after all.
If there are any parents of former MTTA students on this list, I understand that you may have been misled by MPS personnel into thinking that the school was doomed.
Please contact me off-list, and I will be happy to fill you in on how we intend to keep MTTA alive and see that it continues to prosper and expand.
