AFAIK, Jerry is still in business at the Tower Grocery in Prospect Park--retirement didn't take. He doesn't have anyone to break eggs with however.
Does anyone know what's happening in the former R&Js building--8th Ave. and 4th St. SE? It's had black plastic covering the windows and door for months. The dyspeptic gopher impaled on the post at the former Gopher Motel has been taken down. At one point I heard they were keeping the name, but without his Loftiness, I don't see why. I also don't see why the owners didn't just clean the place up and reopen, but I'm not in 2nd ward, so I didn't follow it all too closely. It seems to me it is now in its second remodeling since it closed, without an opening between remodels. I read in Southeast Angle that the octopus from the Octopus Car Wash got rescued from a dumpster and is now in some Prospect Park back yard. BTW: the faceless frathouse lions on University Ave. have been replaced by lions with faces and without 5,572 coats of paint.
