Munsingwear is now owned by Perry Ellis. They closed their plant here due
to high labor costs. They kept their corporate HQ here for about 10 years
after the plant closed. It was in the warehouse district, in the 7xx
block on N. 1st St., and the Remnant Room was on Industrial Blvd.

There used to be a lot more pizza around campus. Remember the "slices
always ready" place at Washington & Ontario? And who remembers Shakey's?
They only had one store in the city, at Oak & Washington. But they had at
least seven others in the suburbs. Now the only Shakey's in Minnesota is
in Rochester, and that restaurant is doing quite well.

What I will add to the list are our two grandiose bank branches -- the
marble interior of the Midland Bank at 4th St. and 2nd Ave. S. (marble
hasn't been disturbed, although it's now offices) and the paneled interior
of the U.S. Bank (formerly F&M) at 6th and Marquette (yes, it's still a
branch, but just in the past four years, they've disrupted the marvelous
view from the balcony).

Does anyone else think that partitions and cubicles have wrecked classic
interior design?

And I miss Zantigo at 8th & Hennepin!
