Hi Folks  

I'd like to say thank you to Mike Atherton for his post explaining
regression models, and why he was concerned about the research Audrey
Johnson cited.  I for one will miss Atherton's posts should he move out of
the state.  I don't always agree with Atherton, but he is an independent
thinker -- and I think we need more independent thinkers in Minneapolis.    

I personally don't think the school board members themselves need to be
statistics experts.  However, they should not be afraid to ask questions of
the school staff that gives them the research.  Studies that are peer
reviewed should be taken more seriously than those put out by a computer
company for example.  I would take a "study" published by Apple Computer
about the use of computers in schools with the same skepticism, I would
take the information provided by the Minnesota Family Council on
homosexuality.
