Regarding the Hiawatha line, just what is being done to encourage housing density on the line? I live 100 feet from a bus stop on Minnehaha Ave and I cannot see that I would walk a half mile or so to 38th and Hiawatha take the Light Rail more than once.
In my opinion, the elevators and commercial properties on the east side of Hiawatha should be purchased and rezoned for medium density multiple dwellings. The elevator profiles could be retained to avoid changing the skyline of the area. Unless you have residents living within a couple of blocks of the stations, you will find very little local traffic on that line. And please remind me again why millions are being spent to lay track about 150 feet to the west of the existing tracks which extend south to about 46th street. Was there an attempt to lease the use of those tracks from the railroad?
