This is certainly not valid in every case. If a couple is making a good living after 30 years in the job market and chooses to purchase a house in an expensive area, why would their high-school graduate child be able to live in the same neighborhood? What happened to the idea of moving on up? I couldn't have bought a house in my current neighborhood after I graduated from college.
