We've got a great party,  some wonderful
inaugural activities to say thank you and
events to help re-engage the citizens of
Minnesota.  Here's the lineup.

1. CITYBALL
8 p.m. to midnight, January 5
Minneapolis Convention Center 

Everyone who loves Minneapolis and its
fabulous arts and entertainment scene is
invited to CityBall � our gala inaugural
party � featuring a packed night and two
stages with simultaneous entertainment, one
stage featuring live cabaret acts, the other
a dance band. Several acts have already been
confirmed, including: The Girls: Lori Dokken,
Erin Schwab and Debbie Duncan; Chicks on
Sticks; Alda Flamenco; Circus Juventas; Mark
Stillman; Miss Richfield 1981 and a group of
Somali singers. The Minnesota Film Board
will also show a sample of Minnesota-made
films in a separate room.  And a few more
surprises...

Festive wear is encouraged. Cash bars will
serve alcohol. Desserts and coffee will be
provided as part of the $25 ticket price.

Orpheum Theatre Box Offices, at all
Ticketmaster outlets including Marshall
Fields, Mervyn's and Rainbow Foods, by phone

The CityBall dinner, hosted by Channel 9
News Anchor Robyne Robinson, begins at
6 p.m. Tickets for the dinner, which includes
the gala, are $125. For more information on

2. INTERFAITH PRAYER SERVICE
7:30 to 9 a.m., January 2
Central Lutheran Church  

Following the theme of our service, �A
Dwelling Place for All Generations:
Celebrating the City with Words and Music,�
speakers will focus on my administration�s
top priority � affordable housing � and call
on faith communities to become more active
in addressing the region�s housing crisis.
The service will be presided over by The Rev.
Al Gallmon, pastor of Fellowship Missionary
Baptist Church, as well as other Christian,
Jewish, Muslim and Hindu religious leaders.
The service is free and open to the media
and the general public.

3. CITIZENS FAIR
3 to 6 p.m., January 2
Minneapolis City Hall rotunda 

I will meet with citizens during this
first-ever Citizens Fair at City Hall. At
the event, citizens will be able to:  meet
me and other city officials, learn about
city job openings, learn about serving on
various city boards and commissions, and get
an application for service.  Citizens can
sign-up to get involved in all kinds of city,
school, park and library programs, including
the Neighborhood Revitalization Program,
which is spending millions of dollars on
affordable housing and other issues, the
CCP/Safe Program, which brings together
citizens and police officers, People for
Parks, and numerous other programs.  Citizens
will also be able to participate in an
interactive mural project led by Marilyn
Lindstrom and Ta-coumba Aiken. 

As an extra bonus, citizens who attend the
Citizens Fair will get a coupon for a
�Mayor�s Night Out on the Town,� which will
give them a discount for dining out at
a variety of Minneapolis restaurants on
Inaugural Day.

4. MAYOR'S NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN

Please join me and the Greater Minneapolis
Visitors and Convention Bureau in sponsoring
a Mayor�s Night Out on the Town, which will
give people a discount on dinner at a
variety of Minneapolis restaurants on
Inaugural Day. People who drop by the
Citizens Fair will be given a special pass
for the discounts. For more information, go

5. INAUGURAL CEREMONY
10 a.m. to noon, January 2
Minneapolis City Hall rotunda

Returning to a tradition going back to the
19th Century, we will be holding the
swearing-in ceremony in the City Hall
rotunda. There area only a few tickets
available due to limited seating in the
rotunda, so I encourage you all to watch it
on our cable television stations.
