First, I'd like to say that David has done a great job of overseeing this list and I'd 
like to thank him for that.

This has been a strange year--good in some ways, not a very good one for me, 
frankly--and I think I speak for a lot of folks when I say that the past three months 
have seemed like twelve. I'm glad we're all here and well.

Earlier this year, when John and I were in our favorite Western town--Butte, 
Montana--to show our film, one of the owners of a local bookstore said to me, 
"Minneapolis! What a nice, civilized place!" Well, I couldn't help chuckling, 
especially since I find the openness and hospitality of people in the West to be 
unique, but let's face it, on the whole we are pretty civilized and despite this 
city's problems people around the country admire and even envy us and our 
neighbor/nemesis across the river...
:)

So here's to a better Minneapolis in 2002, with a new mayor and mostly new Council. 
Good luck to them, and to you, everyone--have fun tonight, take care, be safe.
