On my annual January 1 jaunt along the Mississippi river gorge, I came
across a flock of about 28 robins. Springs along the river valley offer
relatively warm wintering over spots for a population of robins. Fourth
year running I've searched out New Years day robins successfully.

Purpose of note is to ask a question I've always wondered about. There has
been virtually no swallows on the cliffs below Fort Snelling for years.
There used to be a lot of 'em. Is the decline for lack of mosquito's? Other
environmental impact? Can anything be done to reintroduce them to the area?
They add a lot to a twilight summer walk along the bicycle/walking path
between Minnehaha Park and Fort Snelling State Park.
