This was my first attendence to a political "ball" for
city politics. I went to Jesse's inauguration but
that was a rock concert and I didn't get to flash any
velvet or rhinestones.
Annie Young was right. Black seemed to be the color of
choice for many women including me.
I thought it was "absolutely fabulous". We all clean
up pretty good and behave pretty well at a party.
Everyone looked great, especially the guy with the red
and black plaid wool Elmer Fudd hat on. There was
great entertainment everywhere you turned.
Natalie Johnson Lee waltzed in like Cinderella. God,
she is beautiful and wears clothes nicely. I agree
with Annie Young that Liz Nerud (Jim Nilands wife) and
Sheila Delaney (E.D. Longfellow) looked great as did
Robert Lilligren and his aide Andrea Jenkins. Muriel
Simmons (West Phillips Chair) was stunning in gold
head to toe and Nathae Richardson (aide to R.T.) was
enchanting in Cobalt Blue sequins. The Eros-Phillips
couple looked very distinguished and colorful in their
ethnic formal wear.
Peter Wagenius looked quite dapper in his white and
black tux and he can sport a mean swing on the dance
floor.
The shock of the evening was seeing Bob Miller in a
tuxedo without a baseball hat or his famous rubber
boots.
Mayor Rybak and his lovely wife Megan looked pretty
cute too but I expected that they would. His socks
were only slightly unmatched. He is a live wire on the
dance floor.
Merwyn Larson and his wife can REALLY dance well. They
moved around the dance floor like skaters on ice.
Politically speaking, it was nice the see the chairs
of the Republican, Independence and DFL parties all in
attendance.
What I was most impressed with were the number of
people who attended that were just regular folks.
Not people entrenched in political circles (although
there were those) but regular neighborhood folk and
people who might not have gone had R.T. not extended
the invite to the general public. That was a great
gesture on his part.
