I would assume that the only reason this landlord is getting calls from Section 8 tenants is due to the amount of rent being charged. A family of 2 parents and 4 children receiving public assistance receive a grant of $770/month. Without the subsidy, there is no way they would be able to afford such rents.
I have a household of six. I make $20.821/hour. I net gross $3609. After taxes, health insurance, union dues, life insurance for myself and family, a deferred compensation deduction, and a United Way contribution, I net about $1150.00 biweekly. There is no way that I, as a fulltime worker, would be able to afford this rent. Unless a family has either a Section 8 subsidy, two working parents, or 2 families renting together, the average family is NOT going to be able to afford this kind of rent. It, to my mind, is NOT affordable housiing and is a prime example of even working-class families not being able to afford adequate housing in our city.
