The Council's Zoning and Planning Committee yesterday unanimously approved the
variance requests of CVI, the family supportive housing project of
PPL/Sabathani/Turning Point (to be located at Franklin and Elliot). In doing so, the
committee denied the appeal of Ventura Village, Inc., the neighborhood group in North
Phillips. As many folks know, a variance from the 1/4 mile spacing requirement for
"supportive housing" was one of the variance requests drawing particular ire from the
neighborhood group.

I attended part of the hearing and I'm impressed by the new council members and their
committment to openness, fairness, and full participation. I get a sense of good
things to come. We'll see.
