In light of the subdebate on this topic over land transactions at Minnehaha Park, I'd
like to offer some clarification, as one who covered the issue for the Star Tribune
and pored long and often over detailed maps of the project.

It is accurate to say that the Park Board transferred portions of the park to MNDOT.
This was just over seven acres. It is also correct to say that MNDOT transferred
portions of its right of way, and other land it purchased, to the Park Board. This
was just over nine acres.

For example, in one area near where the Longfellow House now sits, MNDOT bought a
strip of rail right-of-way that bisected part of the park. This was transferred to
the Park Board, and Park Board land closer to Hiawatha was tranferred to MNDOT.

It is not correct to say that no park land was transferred to MNDOT, although the Park
Board did gain a net of two acres.

There are color-coded detailed maps at MNDOT and perhaps in court files for anyone who
wants to review this further.
