Cafeteria Plans allow for companies to allow employees to choose from a variety of coverages. Most benefit plans are designed to give everyone in the group identical coverage, Cafeteria style allows the employee to tailor their program to their specific needs, much like picking out your Jell-O and vegetables to go with your entree in the cafeteria line instead of just getting whatever comes with the special at your seat. It also allows for paying for the benefits with pre-tax dollars.
