Since we've had a rash of non-Minneapolis posts lately, I'd just like to
clarify some of the guidelines we've developed over the years.

Fundamentally, appropriate subjects here are topics unique to Minneapolis
(city council issues, etc.) or broader subjects with specific, exceptional
Minneapolis impacts (Crosstown and the airport are regional things, but
noise/pollution affect Minneapolis more than almost any other place, so it's
ok).

Denise's recent post about airport bag-checking procedures, while helpful
and undoubtedly well-intentioned, doesn't have a unique Minneapolis impact
(it affects all travelers no matter where from), so it's the sort of thing I
discourage.

On to meeting announcements: I allow almost any meeting announcement that
takes place in Minneapolis because that city location is the unique aspect.
However, the SUBJECT of the meeting is often not local (or much broader than
Minneapolis without a unique local aspect). A good example: 2000's
Nader-for-President rallies.

This creates some understandable confusion for members. It's fine to
publicize a National Lawyer's Guild meeting that takes place in Minneapolis,
but it's not ok to post your opinions on Sara Jane Olson or Andy Dawkins
because there's no Minneapolis factor there.

The bottom line: resist the temptation to start a thread based on a meeting
announcement unless you can identify the unique, local Minneapolis issue.

Thanks,
