The person who poses as the "representative" of district 59B has introduced a bill in the legislature to order an extra election in 2003 for city council. This would have an implication for the 2005 and 2009 mayoral races. If council members are holding over in their four-year terms in those years, they would be able to take a "free shot" at the mayor's office. The way it is now, they would have to give up their council seats in order to run for mayor, a la Sharon Sayles Belton and Lisa McDonald.
