The Senate Bonding Committee made their recommendations today. Included in the bill are the following Minneapolis items, plus a few other items that affect Minneapolis:
Minneapolis Planetarium - $20 million (Berglin) Minneapolis Empowerment Zone - $8 million (Higgins) Guthrie Theater - $30 million (Pogemiller) Children's Theatre - $5 million (Berglin) Youth Enrichment Grants - $3 million (Sabo?) Early Childhood Grants - $5 million (Sabo?) Metro Greenways and Natural Areas - $2 million Metro Regional Parks Acquisition - $10 million Flood Mitigation Grants - $28.5 million (two projects in North Mpls included in this amount) Brownfields to Greenspace Grants - $1.5 million (Higgins) Northstar Corridor - $8 million Port Development Assistance - $4 million Redevelopment Grant Program - $11 million (Higgins) Livable Communities Grant - $10 million (Higgins) People Inc. Northside facility $385,000 (Higgins) Mpls Community and Technical College Helland Center $19 million (Orfield) Northwest Metro Busway (goes from NW burbs through North Mpls to downtown) $5 million VA Home building renovations to provide Adult Day Care $990,000 Not bad work for a bunch of legislators that Sam Grabarski (in Skyway News link from earlier today) says aren't as good as Jim Rice and our predecessors! Now remember, this is the senate position and will have to be negotiated with the house, who will likely have a much smaller bill. Another thing to note: Housing funding seems to be missing from this bill, which we hope to fix somewhere along the line. It can be used only for publicly owned housing, but even programs that usually get some money, like the MHFA for POTH (publicly owned transitional housing), have no money allocated. Also missing is the VA Homeless Vets program.
