HI, Trash Lady here.

Yes, I am responsible for that mailing. I am also responsible for insuring
that garbage is appropriately picked up throughout the City, every week. As
a farm kid, I know that Mother Nature will ensure that the lack of snow
early in the year will most likely be balanced with more than our usual rate
of accumulation in the late winter and Spring. Additionally, as a scientist
I know that March is statistically the month with the highest amount and
frequency of snow falls. I am very sure that my customers will need the
snow cart information sometime this winter, especially since the Council
passed a very significant revision to the shoveling policy early this year.

It is, perhaps, fortuitous that the brochure is later than usual in coming
out this year, since our snow has also been late. Please be advised that
the Recycling Calendar, which is also coming out late, is late for the same
reason. When the Administrative Manager, that produced all of our customer
information left the City over a year ago, I did not replace that position
and assumed the duties myself. Yes, this was done to try to avoid the cost
of staffing the position. I apologize for any inconvenience my tardiness in
getting these two mailings out has caused any of you.

Finally, if you wish to know your recycling schedule, please e-mail me, off
line with your address, and I will e-mail you your recycling dates. We are
in the middle of a major re-do of our data bases, with the hope that by fall
we will be able to have your recycling dates available on our Web site.

Subject: [Mpls] City Garbage Mailing

I just got a mailing from the City of Minneapolis, saying "It's winter -
shovel out your garbage cart!".

Have these people looked out their City Hall windows lately??? There is
bare ground showing all over the place! You'd have to drive about 50 miles
in any direction to find any snow worth shoveling! We've hardly had snow
worth shoveling all this season. I think I only had to shovel around my
garbage cart about 2 or 3 times since last fall.

I wonder how much of our tax money was wasted on this utterly useless,
un-needed mailing?

Tim Bonham, Ward 12
